The Trona Patch Times is a newsletter specifically about soda ash. It is published monthly, on a subscription basis and contains feature stories about soda ash producers, markets, uses and users. It also provides numerical data about soda ash sales, imports, exports and world trade with analysis and historical trends. The Trona Patch Times is written in simple English using a Hemingway short sentence style and few technical terms. It is easily read and understood by subscribers who use English as a second or third language.
Volume 1, Number 1 of the Trona Patch Times was published January 15, 1998. It contained about 700 words, one table and one graph. It was printed on both sides of one 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. There were no subscribers. Volume 3, Number 11, published November 15, 2000 contained 3,500 words, nine graphs, five graphics and three tables. The November 2000 issue was a six-page issue and was mailed to subscribers around the world. The January 2001 edition filled eight pages and dramatically expanded international coverage. Many of the 2002 editions contained at least 7,000 words and more than 28 graphics.
